High-end food business receives business support and funding to expand from The Business Hothouse
Will Murgatroyd runs two successful businesses from his base in Hove.
The Herb Kitchen is a high-end event catering business focusing on the Southeast of England. Rebel Charcuterie, introduced during the pandemic, makes award-winning British charcuterie and high welfare Brighton smoked salmon for the wholesale and retail market. They produce products for direct to consumer as well as selling to third businesses. With customers such as The Cheese Man, Simon Rogan, JKS Group, The Goodwood Estate and many more, Will is delighted with the company’s achievements,
“We are proud to have supplied many great establishments from Michelin star restaurants to large wholesale operators.”
They have recently produced a range of charcuterie for the Goodwood estate using their organic pork and beef. Additionally, they are in the process of developing this range to enter the pre-packed portion-controlled market.
Moving their business forward
The company also received a funding grant from the Business Hothouse which has enabled them to grow at a better pace than previously planned and seize opportunities that were previously unavailable. It also eased any cashflow concerns which normally occur with restricted capital.
They were able to add a part-time member to the team to assist with production and are due to add a full-time team member in March.
As a result of accessing all this support, the company continues to grow,
“The areas such as the business plan writing gave us a starting point to writing our own plan in no time. The cash flow forecast was initially a daunting prospect but with the guidance and a little bit of patience it was actually pretty straightforward.”
Overall, Will found the business support process very helpful,
“Business is good, we took a little hit during December on our forecasted sales due to restrictions put in place due to the pandemic, but we are still working hard on increasing sales in the first quarter of 2022.”
