Business in place thanks to Dorset Growth Hub
A Dorset business that launched in January is already exporting its expertise – after receiving help from the Dorset Growth Hub.
Inplace Interiors Ltd was founded by Martin Mason in Gillingham after a decade as Lead Project Manager for US office environment specialists Herman Miller.
After 10 years travelling the world overseeing the installation of office interiors he decided to go solo and set up by himself.
Martin’s first act was to search the internet for a business support organisation and he found the Dorset Growth Hub.
He booked himself on one of their courses at the Crown Hotel in Blandford and met Shelley Collins, who has been assisting him ever since.
With his former employers as a major client, Martin is now building a client base and working across the country and in Europe.
Starting Up
He said: “Starting my own business was a major step for me, especially as it meant giving up a successful career.
“After finding the Dorset Growth Hub I went on a business start-up course and it was incredibly reassuring to hear ‘confirmation’ of my business plan.
“They really put my mind at rest as well as offering real, practical help. This included securing me grants and helping me with things such as GDPR.
“I now use dependable installation crews across the country to carry out the work, and we are also sending teams to Europe for jobs.
“So far I have secured work for some well-known companies and famous individuals who demand particular furniture and office environments.
“Having been in the industry for so long I knew I could save clients money while maintaining the high levels of quality that companies such as Herman Miller demand.
“The Dorset Growth Hub and Shelley have given me great confidence, and have been vital for me to bounce ideas off. I would recommend them to anyone looking for assistance.”
Shelley said: “We hold regular Business Essentials workshops across Dorset and Martin is an example of how we can help.
“He had a detailed business plan and incredibly after five months he hit his targets so accurately there was just £5 difference between the plan and the reality.
“We have secured Martin a grant so his crews are dressed in smart uniforms and the quality of his work has led to the business really taking off.
“We are here to help anyone starting their own business and would encourage them to get in touch.”
